June 29, 2010
The
Lynchburg Police Department is currently investigating several cases involving
graffiti in the Downtown area.
Between June 27, 2010 and June 28, 2010 three Lynchburg Businesses were
the victims of someone spray painting words and other symbols on the structures.
Two of the three businesses that were vandalized are Hammer Enterprises
located at 1300 Commerce St and Midland Motors located at 1222 Main St.
The location of the third structure is 1225 Commerce St.

The Amherst County
Sheriff's Office is investigating a series of burglaries that occurred in the
Little Piney River area of the county.
Prior to April 5th,
five hunting cabins & campers located on Little Piney Road were entered by
force and a number of camping, fishing and hunting related items were taken.
Some of the
more noticeable things taken include;
§
A Coleman shallow well jet pump, green in color
§
A DeVilbiss 5,000 watt generator
§
A Coleman propane double mantle lantern
§
A Honda 4 wheeler model TRX-200SX with deer racks on the front
§
2 portable tree stands, a big shot and a backshot
§
Several portable gas heaters
§
A number of cammo clothing items and 2 pair of boots
You may have noticed
someone come into the possession of outdoor gear unexpectedly or heard them
talking about the burglaries.
A white cargo style van was also observed in the area during the time of these larcenies.
The Amherst County
Sheriff's Office is investigating the larceny of a John Deer Tractor from
Charley Hill Road in the Lowesville area of Amherst County.
Between December
2009 and May 2010 a storage building was entered and a number of things were
taken. Some of the more noticeable things include:
§
John Deer tractor with mowing deck, green and yellow in color
§
Craftsman riding mower
§
Radiator from a 1965 dump truck
These items were
taken from the estate of a long time Lowesville resident who passed away in
December. The heir, a daughter, didn’t find the items missing until May.

The Lynchburg Police Department is currently investigating numerous fraudulent checks that have been cashed throughout the city and surrounding counties. These checks are written on the account of “Patching Paving Specialists & Home Improvement, LLC” with a fictitious address in Bedford, VA. These checks are being cashed by 3 Hispanic males (wearing yellow traffic/work vests) driving a black, mid 90’s model, 2 door, Chevrolet Camaro.

The
Lynchburg Police Department is investigating a robbery that occurred on Monday,
May 17, 2010. At approximately 2:10
p.m. police officers were called to
the 1600 block of Buchanan St. for a reported strong-arm robbery.
Upon arriving on the scene, officers located the female victim who
reported that she answered her door after hearing a knock.
When she opened the door, an unknown black male in his 20’s grabbed the
victim by the shirt collar and demanded money.
The suspect took the victim’s purse and left the residence.
The suspect was last seen running towards 17th St. and
Buchanan St. The suspect is
described as being a black male, early 20’s, approximately 6’1” tall,
and 180 lbs. The victim
stated that the suspect was wearing black pants, a black coat, and a black
bandanna covering his face. An
undisclosed amount of money was taken during the incident.

May 11, 2010
The
Lynchburg Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred on Sunday,
May 9, 2010. At approximately 9:27
p.m. police were called to the
Meadows Apartment complex located at 2315 Yorktown Ave. for shots fired.
A witness to the incident reported seeing an Allied Cab drop off a black
male near the 300 building in the Meadows.
The male suspect reportedly fired an unknown number of shots at another
black male who ran into the 300 building. As
the male victim was running, the suspect fired two more shots towards the 300
building. According to the caller,
the suspect got back into the cab and left the area. There
have been no reported injuries related to this incident.

May 4, 2010
The
Lynchburg Police Department is investigating a breaking and entering that
occurred between April 30, 2010 and May 3, 2010 at 901 Church St.
On May 3, 2010 the reporting party told police that a shed that is
located next to the J & D Court building had been broken into.
The pad lock that was securing the door was missing.
Upon inspection of the contents of the shed, the complainant noticed that
a pressure washer and an Echo leaf blower were missing.
The value of the pressure washer and the blower was estimated at $850.
There is no suspect information at this time.

April 27, 2010
The
Lynchburg Police Department is investigating a shooting into an occupied
dwelling that occurred on April 24, 2010. At
approximately 1:06 a.m. officers responded to 100 Federal St. and 81 Federal St.
for shots fired. Responding
officers located several spent shell casings in front of 83 Federal St.
Officers removed a projectile from a room inside of 100 Federal St.
The victim at this residence was watching television when a bullet came
through her window and lodged in a wall. No
one was injured during the incident.
A
tan colored Ford Crown Victoria sedan that was parked in front of 83 Federal St.
sustained damage when a bullet struck the rear window.
No one was injured as a result of this incident.
There
are no suspects or suspect descriptions at this time.

April 20, 2010
The
Lynchburg Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred on
April 13, 2010 at the apartments located at 2315 Atherholt Rd.
At approximately 1:04 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 the victim reported
that he was in the laundry room of the apartment building when he was approached
by three black males.
One of the suspects pointed a silver in color handgun at the victim and
demanded money from him.
The suspects are described as three black males, between 19 and 20 years
old, 5’9”-6’ tall, thin, and wearing black shirts.
Two of the suspects were wearing
dark colored pants.
The other suspect was wearing dark colored shorts.
The victim was not injured as a result of the robbery.
The suspects left with an undisclosed amount of money.
April 13, 2010
The Lynchburg Police Department is investigating an aggravated assault that occurred on Monday, April 12, 2010 in the area of 5th St. and Polk St. At approximately 8:00 p.m. the adult male victim reported that he was walking in the area of 5th St. and Polk St. when he was approached by three black male suspects. According to the victim, there was a brief exchange of words after which he was attacked by the suspects. As a result of the attack, the victim sustained an orbital fracture to the area of his right eye. The victim was air-lifted to the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville where he was treated for his injuries. The three suspects are described as black males in their twenties. All three were described by the victim as being approximately 5’8” and approximately 180 lbs. The victim thought that one of the suspects was wearing a Pittsburg Steelers jersey at the time of the incident.

April 6, 2010
Sometime during March 25 thru April 2, 2010 unknown suspects stole a 14
foot enclosed work trailer, belonging to 'Custom Home Repairs', from the
Wiggington Road area. On April 5, 2010 the trailer was found abandoned in the 1700
block of Mud Street (Campbell County). The
trailer had been damaged and ransacked with numerous items missing.
The missing items are valued at around $8,000.00.

March 30, 2010 ***UPDATE***
The
Lynchburg Police Department is investigating a breaking and entering that
occurred at E.C. Glass located at 2111 Memorial Ave.
Sometime during the weekend of March 20 through March 21, 2010 an unknown
suspect(s) entered the football concession stand and stole approximately $200
worth of food items.
The suspects then entered the baseball storage building and stole
athletic equipment valued at approximately $350.
There were no signs of forced entry and neither building was damaged
during the crime.
***UPDATE***
The Lynchburg Police Department is also investigating a trespassing call at E.C. Glass High School that occurred on March 27, 2010. Detectives believe that the suspects seen in the attached photos may be responsible for the breaking and entering that was reported on March 30, 2010. A total of 5 unknown suspects entered the school.
March 9, 2010
The
Lynchburg Police Department is investigating a larceny that occurred in the 4000
block of Harris Lane Lynchburg, VA.
The crime occurred sometime between Friday, March 5, 2010 and Monday
March 8, 2010.
During that time period, an unknown suspect or suspects stole 8,000 lbs
of stainless steel rods.
Each stainless steel rod was 3/8” by 12’ long.
The rods were banded together into 3 bundles.
The bands holding the rods were removed during the crime.

The Lynchburg Police Department is investigating a robbery that occurred in the 400 block of Harrison Street on Sunday, January 10, 2010 at approximately 10:50 p.m. The victim reported that she was working, cleaning the parking lot of the Z-Market located at 1401 Park Avenue. She stated that a b/m that said his name was Eric Jackson was upset because of some money that he lost. The victim stated that the suspect walked with her from the store toward 5th St. She stated that the male was acting suspiciously while they walked and began accusing her of taking his money. The victim said that she went to her friend’s house on Harrison Street and thought the male left once she went inside. The victim stayed at her friend’s house for a short period of time then left. After leaving, the victim reported that the male came out of the shadows and punched her in the face. She began to fight with him as he tried to take her purse that was wrapped around her shoulder. The victim then said she felt a burning sensation in her lower back as the male ran away with her purse. The victim had small puncture wounds to her lower back. She was transported to the Lynchburg General Emergency room where she was treated for her injuries and released
The suspect is a b/m, 21 to 24 years old, 6'1 to 6'4, 160 to 190 lbs. In the attached photos he is wearing the fur covered hat, jacket with the light colored sleeves and dark body.

March 2, 2010 #1
The
Lynchburg Police Department is investigating a larceny that occurred on
Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at approximately 12:45 p.m. The
victim reported that she had her purse stolen from Lynchburg Imports, where she
works. She
advised that a W/M with a tattoo on his neck (cursive writing) came in to ask
questions about a car.
She stated that she went into the back to get him some paperwork and when
she returned he and her purse were gone.
Her credit card was used several places throughout the city and county.
The following photos are from the First National Bank of Altavista's ATM,
and they show the suspect as he attempted to get money from her account.
February 23, 2010 (Picture Below)
The
Lynchburg Police Department is investigating a burglary that occurred sometime
during the
weekend of January 23rd and 24th,
2010 at Electronic Services, located in the 1600 blcck
of Park Ave.
Items taken during the burglary included various power tools.
Some of the power tools have been recovered at this time but not all of
them. An
unknown black male was seen with one of the power tools that was stolen.
The pictures that were pulled from video surveillance shows the unknown
black male suspect that Detectives are trying to identify.
The suspect is described as a black
male with visible facial hair.
He was wearing a blue t-shirt with unknown graphics, a
dark colored knit hat, and a white zippered sweatshirt with a black pattern.
