September 2, 2014

On August 31, 2014 a female reported that someone had entered her unlocked car and removed a tin that contained several of her credit cards.   She was later notified that someone had attempted to use the credit cards at the Walmart on Wards Rd.   around 3:30 a.m. on August 31, 2014 .   Further investigation shows that both of the credit cards were in fact used to make purchases at that Walmart.   Suspect description are as follows:

Suspect #1 - Late teens to early twenties, wearing a blue t-shirt and camouflage pants.

Suspect #2 - Late teens to early twenties, wearing a blue t-shirt and blue jeans.

Suspect #3 - Late teens to early twenties, wearing a gray tank top and blue jeans and a dark colored baseball cap.

The Lynchburg Police Department's Criminal Investigation's Division is investigating the credit card theft and credit card fraud.

August 26, 2014

Between August 15 and August 20, 2014, an unknown suspect or suspects used a bucket truck (or another vehicle capable of lifting an individual to a street light) to remove an LED light and transformer from two light poles belonging to VDOT. The two poles are directly across the street from Chipotle Mexican Grill located in the 4000 blk. of Wards Rd. Total loss $1600.

August 19, 2014

On July 20, 2014 a customer was in line at the Food Lion on Memorial Ave. when after paying for items, he set his wallet down which contained cards and cash.  The customer then walked off forgetting his wallet on the counter.  A female customer, who was in line behind the male, picked up the wallet and put it in her pocket.  After the cashier totaled her items the female paid for them using cash from the wallet she just took.  The female suspect then walked out of the store with what remained in the wallet.  The event was captured on video.

 

July 22, 2014

The Lynchburg Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is investigating two recent burglaries at Miles Market located at 1112 Rivermont Avenue . The first one took place on June 26 and the second was on July 4. Both occurred during the nighttime hours and large rocks were used to break the front windows of the business. Items taken consisted of $400 and approximately 40 packs of Newport cigarettes.

July 15, 2014

On July 9, 2014 at the Kroger Stores located at 4119 Boonsboro Road and 2012 Wards Road (located in the City of Lynchburg) employees reported to the Lynchburg Police Department that an undisclosed amount of money had been stolen from their stores.  They reported that two unknown females and two unknown males (all appeared to be Hispanic) entered the store.  The two females would purchase a small item and as they paid the cashier they would begin to tell the cashier that they did not know much about our (USA) currency.  The two females would then reach into the register, pull out some money, and ask for help about the different denominations.  As the cashier would speak with them and retrieve the money the two females would, through sleight of hand, conceal and take some of the bills.

June 24, 2014s

On June 18, 2014 the Lynchburg Police Department responded to Chestnut Hill Baptist Church located at 5225 Fort Avenue for a break-in.  An unknown subject broke into the church and stole an undisclosed amount of money.  This is the third break-in at Chestnut Hill Baptist Church since May 8, 2014.  During these break-ins money and electronic equipment have been stolen.

June 17, 2014

The Lynchburg Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the theft of 2005 Caterpillar Skid Steer front end loader. Sometime between 5-23-14 @ 1600 and 5-26-14 @ 0700 the loader was stolen from 702 Federal St Lynchburg VA (Shalom Apts). It was parked in the corner lot near the dumpsters. Included with this release is a picture similar to the one stolen.

 

   June 10, 2014

The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office and the Appomattox County Sheriff’s Office are currently working several day time residential burglaries in their jurisdictions, from 05-21-2014 through 06-07-2014.  Investigator’s advised that large amounts of jewelry have been reported stolen.  Witnesses advised that an unknown white female (dark hair, approximately 5-04 to 5-08 and of average build) and an unknown black female had been seen in and around these residences.   Witnesses advised that the females were seen driving a dark blue Chrysler (possibly a Sebring or 200) convertible with a dark top.  One resident advised that the two females knocked on his door with church literature (this is a common ruse to see if anyone is actually at the residence).

June 3, 2014

On 06-01-2014 Officers with the Lynchburg Police Department responded to Wal-Mart at 3900 Wards Road (located in the City of Lynchburg) for a fraud.  Upon their arrival the Officers spoke with employees who advised that an unknown black male had made multiple fraudulent transactions in their store from May 28, 2014 through June 1, 2014.  They advised that the unknown black male used a fraudulent/counterfeit coupon to steal over $1,400.00 in cash and merchandise.  The unknown black male was caught on the store’s surveillance system on multiple days.

May 27, 2014

On May 16, 2014 at approximately 2334 hrs., officers with the Lynchburg Police Department received a call that two white males entered Peaksview Apartment on the property of Lynchburg College, stealing approximately $10,000.00 worth of personal property. Surveillance footage showed a W/M late 20’s to early 30’s wearing a blue T-shirt (It’s all about ME), blue jean shorts, blonde hair with a receding hair line, accompanied by a W/M late 40’s to early 50’s wearing a blue T’shirt, khaki pants, gold frame glasses, blonde hair on the sides and balding on top. Both males are seen stealing property for 2 hours and maybe accompanied by a younger brunette female (no picture).  

     
     

May 13, 2014

Between May 8 and May 11, 2014, an unknown suspect broke in to the Chestnut Hill Baptist Church, located at 5225 Fort Avenue. At least two separate burglaries occurred during the weekend.   The suspect stole electronic equipment and other various items.

May 6, 2014

On April 17, 2014 two males entered WalMart, located at 3900 Wards Road, and purchased numerous gift cards with several stolen credit cards.

Suspect #1: White or Hispanic, approx. 5'8" 180lbs wearing a DC Shoe Company hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, tan boots.

Suspect #2: White or Hispanic, approx. 5'9: 160lbs. wearing a long sleeve gray shirt, blue jeans, and tan boots

The males appear to be driving a silver Dodge Charger or Chrysler 300.

   
   

April 22, 2014

Sometime between 4/11/14 and 4/13/14 someone entered the property of Hawkins-Graves Inc. and stole two heat pumps that were located on the roof of the business. This business is located at 2210 Florida Ave. Total loss amounts to around $3,000. 

April 1, 2014

On 12/28/13 an unknown white male used a stolen credit card at two separate locations in the City of Lynchburg . The first occurred at Kmart then shortly after that the card was used at the Wards Rd. Kroger. All of the fraudulent transactions added up to over $1400.  Attached are three separate still images showing the suspect in this case leaving each of the two stores. The suspect is a white male in his 30’s to 40’s  wearing black pants and a blue V-neck sweater.  

   

March 25, 2014

This subject cashed stolen scratcher at Z Mart #2 on 3/12/2014 at 1:33 pm. The B&E at 460 Mini Mart took place earlier that morning at approx. 3:20 am. Suspect broke door glass and stole lotto ticket rack and tickets from counter.

 

March 25, 2014

On 3/16/2014 - 3/17/2014 between the hours of 1800 and 0430 an unknown subject/s broke into two storage sheds at Belvac, located at 237 Graves Mill Rd. The lock on one of the storage sheds had the lock cut off and left at the scene. The suspect/s stole the following:

·       2 Stihl weedeaters,

·       Stihl Magnum backpack blower,

·       Stihl chainsaw, and a

·       Stihl hedgetrimmer that contained an attachment.  

There were also several miscellaneous tools and tool sets that were stolen. The total value of all of the stolen property exceeds $2,000.

March 4, 2014

On February 14, 2014 someone broke into a residence in the 100 block of Jubilee Dr. Several televisions were stolen from the residence and they are listed as follows:

·         Black 32” Sony Flat Screen TV

·         Black Magnavox Flat Screen  

Loss value is approximately $1000.

February 25, 2014

On December 19, 2013 a trailer bearing VA tag 896748TR was stolen from the Graves Mill Road area. Several expensive lawn care items were also on the trailer when it was stolen. Some of those items are as follows:

·         Toro 42" zero turn lawn mower (Red);

·         Snapper 21" push mower (Red);

·         Shindaiwa weed eater and leaf blower;

·         J&R Trailer with reflective tape on the outside edges;

·         and various other lawn care tools.

Total value is over $5000 for the items taken.

February 2, 2014

On Sunday, February 2, 2014, a woman walking her dog in the 1300 block of Rivermont Avenue was attached by two pit bulls.   The victim stated that the pit bulls were intentionally released by their handlers after she walked past them.   Both suspects have been seen walking in the area of Charlotte Street, Ruffner Place, and Cabell Street.

The first handler is described as a black male in his late 20's to early 30's, heavy set and bald.   The second handler is described as a black male in his late 20's to early 30's, short and skinny.   Both males have been seen in the area walking their dogs in the past.

The pit bulls are described as follows:   One large white pit bull with brown or black spots.  The second was a smaller solid gray or solid brown pit bull.

The victim in the case received multiple bite wounds to both hands.

February 1, 2014

On the morning of February 1, 2014 at approximately 12:20 am officers with the Lynchburg Police Department responded to Lynchburg General Hospital where they located a victim of a malicious wounding. The victim told the officers that he was inside Ernesto's Mexican Grill located at the Plaza Shopping Center when a fight broke out on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant. As the victim was exiting the restaurant he was attacked by someone yielding a sharp object. The victim was cut multiple times over various parts of his body. He was then taken to the hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. 

January 28, 2014

The Lynchburg Police Department is conducting an investigation into numerous credit card theft / credit card fraud cases. The two suspects shown below have been using a number of stolen credit cards (actually obtaining persons credit card information and using a clone credit card that attaches to their account) to make multiple purchases in the Lynchburg area this past month.  The one black male is bald, has a goatee, usually wears a ski cap, and has a jacket with patches on the left arm with an American flag on top.  The other black male wears a golf style cap, has a beard, and has long dreads about half way down his back.

       

January 21, 2014

On or about December 31, 2013 someone stole a painting from the Mangia restaurant located at 2496 Rivermont Ave. The painting is an Elliot Tweary and was on loan from his estate.

January 14, 2014

On 1/4/14 a female came to the pharmacy department at the CVS on Langhorne Rd. and submitted a prescription for Oxycodone.  The suspect (the female in the surveillance footage wearing sunglasses and carrying a green purse) portrayed herself to be someone that she wasn't and had the prescription filled. Not sure if the ID was stolen or a good forgery.  When the prescription was filled, an email from CVS went to the actually person that the suspect was portraying to be. She contacted CVS and said that she did not have a prescription for oxycodone and she did not bring a prescription for oxycodone to the CVS on Langhorne Rd.  The suspect had already picked up the prescription before CVS was contacted by the actual person who's name the prescription was filled in.

 

January 7, 2014

On 11-28-13 at approximately 2:50 am a white male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with “AND 1” written on the front walked into Sheetz at 3927 Wards Road and asked for change for $100.00. The clerk opened the cash drawer in an attempt to make change. At that point the suspect reached into the drawer and grabbed an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing in a dark colored compact vehicle.  

On the same date at approximately 5:03 am the same white male walked into Sheetz at 2630 Lakeside Drive and again asked for change for $100.00. When the clerk opened the cash drawer the subject reached into the drawer, grabbed the money and fled in a dark colored compact vehicle.

     

January 3, 2014

On 12/26/13 the male in the attached photo walked into L. Oppleman's Pawn and after picking up a laptop computer, walked out with it without paying for it.  The computer is valued at $850.00.  There is sufficient probable cause to charge the male in the photo with grand larceny.

 

December 31, 2013

During the month of November the male, who is depicted in the below attachment, shoplifted merchandise from two Lynchburg businesses (Old Forest Rd. Walmart and Sam’s Club) on three occasions. The dates these offenses occurred are 11/14, 11/20 and 11/26. 

On each occasion the male entered the business, took store merchandise from the displays and then walked out of the store without paying for the items.  The male can be charged with misdemeanors on two occasions and with a felony for the third occasion. 

 

December 17, 2013

The Lynchburg Police Department was called to two locations in the city in reference to larcenies from businesses that are believed to be related.  On 12/14/13 at 0948 hrs Officers responded to 2312 Memorial Ave at the Dollar General for a reported larceny.  On 12/15/13 at 1046 hrs Officers responded to 3100 Old Forest Rd at the CVS for a reported larceny.

In both cases a Black male in 30’s to early 40’s, entered the business and approaches the clerk at the register under the pretense of making a purchase, when the clerk opens the register, the suspect reaches in and grabs and undisclosed amount of US Currency.  The suspect then flees the scene on foot.   The business was open during the theft.  No employees or patrons were injured during the incident.

The suspect is described as the following:   Black male, mid 30’s160 lbs,  close cut hair / bald

It is believed both incidents are related.  We are seeking the identity of the male in the store security video from the Dollar General (attached to e-mail).                              

 

October 8, 2013

Larceny:  On Friday October 4, 2013 at approximately 1052 hrs, Officers responded to the 1400 block of Buchanan Street in reference to a reported theft.  When officers arrived, they spoke with the owner of the residence. The owner reported that sometime between 10/01/13 and this morning, an unknown suspect damaged and stole the residential air-conditioning unit.  The estimate of damage and loss is approximately $6,000.  

An anonymous person in the neighborhood reported seeing a white male on Thursday morning, driving a green pick-up truck, wearing a baseball cap, and in his early 40’s, at the residence.  It is believed that this person was on the property shortly before the theft occurred.  

The residence was vacant at the time of the theft.  We are seeking information concerning the suspect or suspects involved with this grand larceny.

 October 1, 2013

Hit & Run:  The Lynchburg Police Department is investigating a hit & run that occurred on 09/29/2013 at the Marathon Gas station at 6015 Fort Ave. The victim stated he was pumping gas when a white van backed into his vehicle. The suspect vehicle is described as a white Plymouth Voyager Van with the Virginia "In God We Trust" license plate with the American flag. The suspect driver is described as a white male in his 30's wearing a white t-shirt with camouflage hat, blue jeans, and brown boots, and has a thin brown goatee. The white van will have damage to the rear end of the vehicle. 

September 24, 2013

Larceny:  The Lynchburg Police Department is investigating a larceny that occurred at a local business in the city of Lynchburg. On 08/04/13 a female customer placed cash on the counter of a local business and briefly walked away, but remained inside the business.  Another female customer, seeing the cash on the counter, placed the cash in her purse and left the business.  The theft was captured on video. The suspect in the video is a black female wearing an orange shirt and a light blue head wrap. 

September 3, 2013

Larceny:  The Lynchburg Police Department is investigating the theft and fraudulent use of a credit card. The victim stated that his credit card was used to make several unauthorized purchases. The individual in the attached photos was observed using this stolen credit card to make two separate purchases at K-Mart on Wards Rd. Lynchburg on August 17, 2013. 

   

July 23, 2013

Robbery:  On 07-23-2013 at approximately 5:30 p.m.hrs., Officers with the Lynchburg Police Department responded to Walgreens, located at 2004 Wards Road , for an armed robbery.  Upon there arrival Officers spoke with the Manager.  The Manager stated that an unknown white male entered the store possibly armed with a handgun under his shirt.  The unknown white male approached the Pharmacist and demanded medication.  The unknown white male then fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of medication.   The unknown white male is described as:

 

Approximately 6-05, 165lbs, mid to late 20’s, wearing a baseball cap, a baggie white T-shirt, blue jean shorts, and high top style tennis shoes.  The suspect also had red or brownish colored hair cut above his ears.
