Stop a Crime, Stop a Fire, Save a Life!
A Nationally Accredited Law Enforcement, Fire, and EMS Agency
Directed by William A. Aldrich, the Lynchburg Emergency Communications Center (LynComm)
began operations on March 10, 1985.
As the City of Lynchburg’s only Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP),
the Center is responsible for receiving and dispatching all police, fire, and

At 10:33 hours on Sunday, September 27, 1998 the City of Lynchburg
transferred its 911 lines and LynComm began operations in its new showcase
facility.
At a cost of $1.2 million this new 8,926 square foot self-reliant
dispatch center features; Ericsson state-of-the-art radio communications
capability on a regional
scale, Open Software Solutions Visual Computer Aided Dispatching (CAD) package,
and Bell Atlantic’s
Plant Equipment Inc. Electo Key Enhanced 911 system.
This modern facility also houses the City’s new Emergency Operations
Center
(EOC)
with advanced
city-wide
operational
status
capability through
a Gateway Destination computer system.
This system provides links to CAD operational activity and field unit
status, along with up-to-date local Doplar radar weather forecasting, the
Internet, and the World Wide Web.
These advancements provide the new EOC with greater control during
large-scale disaster operations, thus enhancing the City’s ability to respond
effectively and efficiently to major and city wide emergency situations.
Phase II of this complex project was completed in the spring of 2000 and
utilizes advanced mobile data terminals to provided wireless data operations for
Police, Fire, and Public Works.
